Actor and comedian Jamie Lever recently opened up about one of the most challenging phases in her family’s life, recalling the time when her brother Jesse Lever was diagnosed with a tumour during his childhood. Speaking candidly on a podcast with Vickey Lalwani, Jamie shared how the frightening health scare changed her family’s priorities and outlook on life.
A Shocking Diagnosis During Childhood
Jamie revealed that Jesse was only around 10 to 12 years old when doctors discovered a tumour in his neck. The condition was particularly dangerous because the tumour was wrapped around sensitive nerves, making surgery extremely risky.
According to Jamie, doctors had warned the family about possible complications. Operating on the tumour could have severe consequences, including the risk of losing eyesight or even paralysis.
The family decided to go ahead with treatment in India. However, the situation became even more distressing when the first surgery failed.
“The first surgery failed and that phase was extremely difficult for all of us,” Jamie recalled.
The period that followed was filled with frequent hospital visits, consultations, and emotional stress for the entire family.
Months of Medication and Uncertainty
After the unsuccessful surgery, doctors tried to manage the condition through medication. Jamie revealed that Jesse had to take an overwhelming number of tablets daily in the hope that the tumour would gradually shrink.
At one point, he was reportedly taking 50–60 tablets a day as part of the treatment.
Despite months of medication, the progress remained limited, and the uncertainty continued to weigh heavily on the family.
Travelling to the United States for Treatment
Determined to find a solution, the Lever family eventually travelled to the United States to seek expert medical advice.
In New York, specialists carefully reassessed Jesse’s condition and recommended another surgery after detailed evaluations.
This time, the procedure proved successful, and the tumour was finally removed—bringing immense relief to the family after years of fear and uncertainty.
A Difficult Phase That Changed Everything
Looking back at those years, Jamie described them as emotionally exhausting for everyone in the family.
“Those were very tough times. We would never want to return to that lifestyle again,” she said, referring to the constant tension and medical uncertainty they experienced.
The experience also strengthened the family’s resilience and faith. Jamie credited her father, veteran comedian Johnny Lever, for standing strong and supporting the family throughout the crisis.
Jesse Lever’s Life Today
Today, Jesse Lever has moved past that difficult chapter of his life. He has built a creative career as a musician and performer, focusing on his passion for music.
Jamie said the family now looks back at those challenging years with gratitude, thankful that Jesse was able to overcome such a serious health battle and rebuild his life.
