Dhurandhar 2 Breaks Multiple Box Office Records on Opening Day, Sets Stage for Historic Run

Mumbai: Dhurandhar 2 has arrived like a storm, rewriting box office benchmarks within hours of its release. With multiple records already under its belt on Day 1, the film is poised to become one of the biggest openers in Indian cinema history.

A Historic Start
On Thursday, March 19, Dhurandhar 2 minted an unprecedented Rs 102.55 crore nett in India on its first day. Including paid preview collections of Rs 43 crore, the total domestic earnings stand at Rs 145.55 crore. Globally, early estimates suggest a massive Rs 236.63 crore, placing the film among the highest-grossing Indian openers ever.

Highest-Ever Preview Day Collection
The record-breaking run began even before the official release. Paid previews held on March 18 after 5 pm earned the film Rs 43 crore across over 12,700 shows nationwide, surpassing the previous record of Rs 25 crore set by Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG.

Biggest Hindi Opener of All Time
The Hindi version alone contributed Rs 99.10 crore on Day 1, making it the highest-ever opening for a Hindi-language film. The total domestic Day 1 collection of Rs 102.55 crore surpassed Pushpa 2, which had earned Rs 70.30 crore in Hindi on its opening day.

Second-Biggest Indian Opening Worldwide
With Rs 236.63 crore globally (including previews), Dhurandhar 2 ranks as the second-biggest opening in Indian cinema, trailing only Pushpa 2 (Rs 275.2 crore) and surpassing RRR (Rs 223 crore).

Career-Defining Opener for Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar
The film marks a record-breaking start for both lead actor Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar. Their previous collaboration, Dhurandhar (December 2025), opened at Rs 27-28 crore—nearly four times lower than Dhurandhar 2’s Day 1 collection.

Highest Advance Booking Across National Chains
Dhurandhar 2 registered the highest-ever advance ticket sales for Day 1 across India, selling 925,000 tickets in advance. It surpassed previous blockbusters including Baahubali 2 (Hindi) – 650K, Stree 2 – 565K, Jawan – 557K, and Pathaan – 556K tickets.

Crossing Rs 100 Crore Despite Regional Delays
Even with delays and cancellations in multiple regions due to technical issues, the film comfortably crossed Rs 100 crore on its opening day. Regional contributions included Telugu – Rs 2.12 crore, Tamil – Rs 1.16 crore, Kannada – Rs 0.8 crore, and Malayalam – Rs 0.9 crore, with Hindi remaining the dominant contributor.

Outperforming Recent Blockbusters
With Rs 102.55 crore on Day 1, Dhurandhar 2 has outpaced major recent Hindi openers:

  • Animal (2023) – Rs 63 crore
  • Jawan (2023) – Rs 65 crore

A Sequel That Exceeded Expectations
The original Dhurandhar had opened at Rs 27 crore and went on to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. The sequel not only met expectations but surpassed them dramatically, earning nearly four times the opening-day collection of its predecessor.

The Film and Its Reception
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2 stars Ranveer Singh alongside Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt. “Dhurandhar 2 must be watched for all the answers you are seeking from the first film and for Ranveer Singh.”

With its unprecedented Day 1 performance, Dhurandhar 2 has set the tone for what could be a record-breaking box office journey, and the question now is not if it will break more records, but how many.
