Filming for the second installment of the ambitious mythological epic Ramayana has reportedly begun in Mumbai. Actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sunny Deol are said to have moved into the next phase of the project, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, even before the first part of the film releases.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, Ranbir Kapoor has already started shooting for Ramayana: Part 2 after a reshuffle in his filming schedule. The change reportedly happened because Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Love and War has been pushed further due to the filmmaker’s health issues. As a result, Ranbir will now focus on shooting for Ramayana between March and May 2026 before returning to Bhansali’s project.

An insider revealed that the actor aims to complete a significant portion of the mythological film during this period. Ranbir, who plays Lord Ram in the film, is currently sporting a clean-shaven look for the role to maintain visual continuity with the first installment.

“The look aligns with the visual continuity planned for the film, which is expected to expand the scale and storytelling established in the first part,” the source reportedly said.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol, who will portray Lord Hanuman in the epic, is expected to join the shoot later this month. Reports suggest the actor will begin filming around March 20, 2026. The upcoming schedule is expected to include important scenes featuring Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman.

Apart from Ranbir and Sunny, the film features a star-studded ensemble cast. Sai Pallavi will be seen as Goddess Sita, while Yash is set to portray the antagonist Ravan. The film also stars Ravie Dubey, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, and Arun Govil in key roles.

The epic is planned as a two-part cinematic saga. The first installment is scheduled to release during Diwali this year, while the second part is expected to arrive in theatres during Diwali 2027.

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor will also return to the sets of Love and War, which stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal alongside him. The film is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, though its official release date has not yet been announced.
