Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur recently opened up about his children, including Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor, and shared that he is proud of how they have built their careers independently in the entertainment industry.
In a conversation with Times Now, Pankaj spoke about how his children prefer to audition and earn opportunities on their own, rather than relying on their father’s name.
Encouraging Independence
Pankaj explained that he has always encouraged his children to learn from both success and failure. According to him, experiencing these moments personally helps build confidence and self-awareness.
“If you win, you will get the confidence of a winner, and if you lose, you will know that you made a mistake. I have given that freedom to all my children,” he said.
He added that seeing his children work hard and stand on their own feet gives him immense satisfaction.
Auditioning Without Using the Family Name
The actor further revealed that his children prefer not to highlight their family background while seeking opportunities. Instead, they go through the regular audition process like everyone else.
“They go and audition on their own, and when they get selected, it makes them feel good about it. It’s not because of their father’s name or their brother’s name.”
Shahid Kapoor’s Journey
Speaking specifically about Shahid, Pankaj said that the actor has built his career entirely through his own efforts.
“So was true about Shahid. He stood on his own feet and made it completely on his own, wherever he is today.”
While Pankaj admitted that his presence as a father has always been there in the background if needed, he emphasised that Shahid’s success is largely the result of his own dedication and talent.
Today, Shahid Kapoor is regarded as one of Bollywood’s most versatile actors, and Pankaj says watching his children grow and succeed independently remains one of his greatest sources of pride.
