Rashmika Mandanna Recalls Family Opposition to Working with Vijay Deverakonda in Dear Comrade
Actress Rashmika Mandanna recently looked back on a challenging phase in her career when she reunited with Vijay Deverakonda for their second film, Dear Comrade, following the success of Geetha Govindam.
While their on-screen pairing was widely loved by fans, Rashmika revealed that her decision to work again with Vijay was not an easy one, especially due to resistance from her family.
Fighting Perceptions and Expectations
Opening up about her journey into the film industry, Rashmika shared that she had to overcome strong opposition from those close to her.
“I came to the film industry after fighting with my parents, family and friends. There’s a perception that it’s not safe for girls. I still persevered despite not having a film family background.”
Her words highlight the societal concerns and stereotypes that many aspiring actors, particularly women, often face when entering the entertainment industry.
The ‘Dear Comrade’ Decision
Rashmika recalled that when director Bharat Kamma approached her with the script of Dear Comrade, she was immediately drawn to the role. However, convincing her family proved to be a major challenge.
“When Bharat sir sent me the script, I really wanted to do it. But it took a lot to convince my family. It was a bad fight at home. They said, no, don’t do a second film with Vijay. I said, it’s not important who I’m doing it with.”
Despite the resistance, Rashmika chose to follow her instincts and take on the role, prioritizing the story and her passion for acting over external pressures.
Vijay Deverakonda Praises Her Dedication
Vijay Deverakonda also acknowledged the difficulties Rashmika faced and praised her commitment to the film and her character, Lilly.
“Once Rashmika okayed it, I know how tough it was for her. She did it despite it affecting her personal life. People said whatever they felt like. But she gave her life for Lilly. I thank you, Rashmika; you’ve done such a beautiful job.”
