Vijay Sethupathi Opens Up on Joining Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee’s Jawan: “Just for Them, I Did That Film”
Filmmaker Atlee’s blockbuster Jawan brought together stars from both South and Hindi cinema, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, and marking Nayanthara’s Hindi film debut. The film not only blurred industry boundaries but also emerged as a National Award-winning entertainer, thanks to its ensemble cast and high-octane storytelling.
Vijay Sethupathi’s portrayal of the striking antagonist Kaalie Gaikwad received widespread acclaim. However, in a recent conversation with Variety India, Sethupathi revealed that his decision to join the film was driven primarily by his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee.
“He knows where the scene or shot should rise and how to make it engaging, and he’s very confident about his scenes. So, I like the way he works. And then, obviously, it was about Shah Rukh, sir. That’s all. Just for them only, I did that film,” Sethupathi admitted, highlighting the trust and respect he shares with both the director and superstar.
Atlee, in an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, emphasized that Jawan was made solely for Shah Rukh Khan. “Jawan is only made for SRK. I didn’t have a second thought about who was going to do it,” he said. The director also elaborated on his close collaboration with Sethupathi, calling him “like a brother” and praising his support and dedication throughout the making of the film.
The collaboration clearly paid off, with Jawan achieving both critical and commercial success while further strengthening the pan-Indian appeal of its cast.
Looking ahead, Vijay Sethupathi is set to appear in his upcoming series, Muthu Alias Kaattaan, while Shah Rukh Khan continues to dominate the big screen with projects like King. Both stars remain at the forefront of Indian cinema, with their recent collaboration cementing their pan-Indian appeal.
