Bollywood star Govinda, who ruled the industry in the 1990s with his comic timing and superhit films, once made headlines for rumours linking him with his co-star Neelam Kothari despite being married.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Govinda spoke candidly about the admiration he had for Neelam during those days. Talking about the attraction he felt, the actor said that many youngsters from small towns often found fair-skinned girls very appealing.
He said Neelam stood out because of her innocence and charming personality. “She was different and such a good girl. Aise lagta tha jaise doll hai,” Govinda shared, recalling how her sweet and graceful nature left a strong impression on him.
The actor also revealed that he admired Neelam even before they worked together. He remembered watching her films and appreciating her beauty from afar, sometimes even whistling while seeing her on screen. Back then, he never imagined that one day he would get the chance to work alongside her.
Govinda further reflected on how romance was perceived differently during that time. He explained that what people often called “affairs” today were not quite the same in those days.
“Uss time pe… abhi jaise affairs hote hain, vaise toh hote nahi the. Hum bawaal machate the… ho gaya, lag raha hai chal raha hai. Pehle wala romance hota tha, woh dekhne maatr ka tha,” he said.
The actor also added that despite all the rumours and admiration, their focus always remained on work. “Kitna acha kaam kar paye na hum log. Har film dekhiye… gaane superhit, filmein hit,” Govinda said, proudly recalling the success of their films and songs together.
Even today, the on-screen chemistry between Govinda and Neelam remains memorable for fans of 90s Bollywood.
