Exclusive: Dhurandhar 2’s Gaurav Gera Opens Up About Ranveer Singh’s On-Set Personality and Audience Love

New Delhi: Dhurandhar 2, the high-octane sequel to Ranveer Singh’s spy-action spectacle, has not only taken the box office by storm but also captured hearts with its emotional depth. In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, actor Gaurav Gera, who plays the pivotal role of Pakistani juice centre owner Mohammed Aalam, opened up about his experience working with Ranveer Singh and the overwhelming audience response to the Dhurandhar films.

From TV Fame to Big-Screen Impact

Gaurav Gera, known for TV shows like Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and Chutki Shopkeeper Aur Woh, revealed that his transformation into Mohammed Aalam left audiences guessing where the actor ended and the character began. “When part one of Dhurandhar released last December, people were trying to figure out who played Mohammed Aalam. It was a seamless transformation,” he said.

The actor reminisced about his first encounter with Ranveer Singh during a promotional reel for Bajirao Mastani around 10 years ago. “He was very sporting and so much fun,” Gera recalled.

Ranveer Singh: Serious on Set, Fun Off-Camera

However, Gera explained that Ranveer’s on-set persona during Dhurandhar was strikingly different. “He was very, very serious on the set. I thought, ‘Arey, he’s not as fun as he appears in public everywhere,’ because the subject of the film required focus,” Gera said.

Yet, behind the scenes, Ranveer revealed his signature spontaneity. “Whenever we had one-on-one moments between takes, he would suddenly break into something funny, whisper something that would leave me thinking ‘Ye banda kuch bhi bol sakta hai.’ He’s crazy, I love him,” Gera added.

The actor also highlighted Ranveer’s larger-than-life approach to life and work. “Even at the special screening of Dhurandhar 2 last night, he was full of love. He does everything fully—when he hugs, laughs, or expresses himself, he does it completely. He’s something else,” Gera said.

Audience Love: A Humbling Experience

Gaurav Gera emphasized the deep connection audiences have developed with the Dhurandhar franchise. “This film no longer belongs to us; it belongs to everyone. It has got so much love. I really feel blessed. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before,” he said.

The emotional bond between Mohammed Aalam and Ranveer Singh’s Hamza Ali Mazari / Jaskirat Singh Rangi remains a core part of the franchise’s appeal. “The quiet support and brotherhood between our characters add to the emotional quotient of the story, something that’s hard to retain in a big-scale spy action thriller,” Gera noted.

Star-Studded Cast

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge released on March 19 and stars Ranveer Singh alongside R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor, and Gaurav Gera. With its stellar performances, gripping narrative, and box office records, the film continues to cement its place as one of the most well-received cinematic spectacles in recent times.
