For years, many fans believed that actor Janhvi Kapoor was named after the character played by Urmila Matondkar in the 1997 film Judaai, which starred her mother Sridevi. However, Janhvi once addressed the popular assumption and revealed that the story behind her name is quite different. In an earlier interview with Filmfare, the actress clarified that her name had already been chosen by her parents, Boney Kapoor and Sridevi, long before the film was made. Janhvi explained that both of them had always liked the name and felt connected to it. More importantly, her mother loved the meaning behind the name, which symbolizes purity.

Speaking about it, Janhvi said, “No, I was not named after Urmila’s character in Judaai. I think dad just really liked the name from before the film and mom did too. I think mom was really obsessed with the idea that the meaning of it was purity and she would keep looking at me and keep telling me that I look pure and pure soul and things like that. So I feel it really resonated with her in that sense.”
The clarification put an end to years of speculation among fans who believed the name was directly inspired by Urmila’s character in the film. Instead, the actress revealed that the name held a deeper personal meaning for her mother.
Janhvi Kapoor, who made her Bollywood debut with Dhadak in 2018, continues to be one of the most talked-about young actors in the industry. Over the years, she has often shared heartfelt memories about her mother Sridevi and the special bond they shared.
