Akshay Kumar Praises Dhurandhar Success, Says Bollywood Trends Keep Evolving
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar recently spoke about the massive success of the film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, highlighting how audience preferences in Hindi cinema constantly evolve.
Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, the actor pointed out that the film’s popularity is proof that cinematic trends keep changing and filmmakers must adapt to what audiences enjoy at different times.
“Take Dhurandhar for example. It’s an action film and there is bloodshed in it. It is great, and people have lapped it up. They have enjoyed it,” Akshay said during the discussion. He noted that Ranveer Singh’s intense “angry young man” portrayal in the film marked a return to a style of storytelling that had briefly faded in recent years.
Changing Trends in Bollywood
Akshay explained that Bollywood trends shift frequently depending on audience tastes. According to him, films that worked a few years ago may not necessarily connect with viewers today.
“Five to six years ago, I did some social films and they worked a lot. Now it’s time for horror comedy. Stree worked so well. Everything keeps on changing, and we don’t know what the audience is going to like next,” he said.
Why He Wasn’t Part of Dhurandhar
When asked whether he wished to be part of Dhurandhar after seeing its success, Akshay clarified that casting decisions ultimately depend on the filmmaker’s vision. The film was directed by Aditya Dhar.
“I don’t think Aditya thought I suited to be a part of the Layari gang. He didn’t think it, so I didn’t get it,” Akshay said candidly.
The actor also spoke warmly about his equation with Ranveer Singh, revealing that both actors respect each other’s work and often admire roles that the other ends up performing.
“I meet Ranveer, and he appreciates my work. There are some roles he wanted to play that I got, and vice versa,” he added.
No Room for Jealousy in the Industry
Akshay concluded by emphasizing that competition among actors in the Hindi film industry is natural but should not lead to jealousy. With hundreds of films being produced every year, he believes there are opportunities for everyone.
“We are around 15–20 actors in Hindi cinema, and about 180 films are made in India. Everyone has a role. There is regret only to the point that we also wish to play a role like that, but there is no jealousy,” he said.
Akshay Kumar’s remarks highlight the dynamic nature of Bollywood, where changing audience preferences and evolving storytelling styles continue to shape the industry.
