Actor Bhumi Pednekar has once again found herself at the centre of online debate after sharing a new video addressing the harassment faced by a young female protester. Days after receiving criticism for her comments on the language used during recent student protests, Bhumi has now strongly condemned the rape and death threats allegedly directed at women participating in the demonstrations.

While many appreciated her message against online abuse, others on social media questioned its timing, with several users describing the video as an attempt at “damage control.”

Bhumi Speaks Against Online Harassment

In her latest video, Bhumi spoke about a viral clip of a young woman who participated in the protests and later became the target of severe online abuse.

The actress said the girl appeared emotionally shaken after receiving rape and death threats. She also claimed that the protester’s mother had been targeted with similar abuse.

Calling such behaviour unacceptable, Bhumi said disagreements over opinions should never lead to intimidation or threats. She stressed that no young woman should have to live in fear simply because people disagree with her views.

Drawing from her own experiences as a public figure, Bhumi spoke about the emotional toll that online harassment can have on mental health. She said women already deal with enough harassment in everyday life and urged people to show empathy instead of spreading hate.

She concluded by saying that meaningful change can only happen when people raise their voices in the right way while standing together with unity and respect.

Social Media Reacts

Although Bhumi’s message against online abuse was welcomed by some, many social media users remained unconvinced.

Several users argued that the actress should have spoken against threats from the very beginning instead of first commenting on the language used by protesters.

Comments describing the video as “damage control” quickly surfaced online, with many claiming that the latest statement appeared to be a response to the criticism she faced after her previous remarks.

Others felt that condemning online threats was the right thing to do, regardless of when the message was delivered.

Why Bhumi Faced Backlash Earlier

The controversy began after Bhumi released a video criticising the abusive language allegedly used by some protesters against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In that video, she questioned whether such language reflected India’s values and culture. She argued that respectful dialogue was essential for democracy and said meaningful conversations could only happen when disagreements were expressed with dignity.

Her remarks, however, drew criticism from several social media users who accused her of focusing only on the language used by protesters instead of addressing the issues that had led to the demonstrations.

Debate Continues Online

Bhumi’s latest statement has added another layer to the ongoing conversation surrounding public discourse, online abuse, and the responsibility of celebrities to speak on sensitive issues.

While opinions remain divided over her earlier comments, her latest video has reignited discussions about the alarming rise in online harassment, especially against women. Regardless of differing political views, many have agreed that rape threats, death threats, and targeted abuse have no place in public debate and should never be normalised.
