Singer and music composer Vishal Dadlani has spoken out in support of Gen-Z student protesters, arguing that the focus should be on the violence they allegedly faced during the demonstrations rather than the language used in protest videos. His comments come amid the ongoing debate sparked by actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s criticism of the protesters on social media.
Vishal Questions Focus on Protesters’ Language
Taking to Instagram, Vishal shared a strongly worded post defending the students. He questioned why the conversation was centred on the protesters’ choice of words instead of the reported use of force against them.
In his post, Vishal alleged that students were beaten on the streets, tear-gassed, pelted with stones and threatened. He argued that these issues deserved greater public attention than criticism over the language used during the protests.
He also accused those in power of attempting to shape public opinion through paid campaigns and influencer promotions, saying such efforts only weakened their credibility.

Kangana’s Remarks Sparked Fresh Debate
Vishal’s response came shortly after Kangana Ranaut posted a series of Instagram Stories criticising videos from the student protests.
Calling the clips “puke-inducing,” Kangana said she found the protesters’ language and behaviour disturbing. She described the videos as “crass” and claimed they reflected poorly on the country’s culture and values.
In another post, she referred to a section of young people as “Generation Gutter,” alleging that some of them wanted independence without responsibility. She also made controversial remarks about their lifestyle and attitudes, which triggered widespread criticism online.
Social Media Divided
The exchange has further intensified the ongoing debate on social media. While some users supported Kangana’s concerns about the tone and language used by protesters, many others echoed Vishal Dadlani’s view that the discussion should instead focus on the treatment of students during the demonstrations.
