The rumours gained attention as the project would have marked Katrina’s return to the South film industry after nearly two decades and also her comeback to films after embracing motherhood. However, reports now suggest that there is no truth to these speculations.
According to an industry source, the news about Katrina joining Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial has been completely dismissed. The source clarified that there has been no discussion or confirmation regarding Katrina’s involvement in the film, calling the reports “speculative and misleading.”
The rumours spread quickly because of the timing. After welcoming her first child with husband Vicky Kaushal, fans have been eagerly waiting to know when Katrina will return to the big screen. The possibility of her joining a major Telugu project like Spirit, alongside superstar Prabhas, created a huge buzz among movie lovers.
Katrina Kaif has a special connection with Telugu cinema. She made her Telugu debut with the 2004 romantic drama Malliswari, opposite Venkatesh, which became a successful film. She was later seen in Allari Pidugu in 2005, after which she focused primarily on Bollywood projects and became one of the biggest stars in Hindi cinema.
The actress was last seen on screen in the 2024 film Merry Christmas, directed by Sriram Raghavan and co-starring Vijay Sethupathi. Since then, Katrina has taken time away from films following her marriage and the birth of her son.
Katrina married actor Vicky Kaushal in an intimate wedding ceremony in Rajasthan on December 9, 2021. The couple welcomed their first child, son Vihaan Kaushal, on November 7, 2025. They have chosen to keep their son away from the public eye and have not revealed his face.
Meanwhile, Prabhas’ Spirit continues to be one of the most anticipated films. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the movie also stars Triptii Dimri in the lead role. The film became a talking point even before its production began after reports surrounding Deepika Padukone’s exit from the project.
Produced by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures, Spirit is currently in production, with the makers having completed a significant portion of the shoot. The film is expected to release in theatres on March 5, 2027.
