Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan has finally addressed why she stayed away from publicly commenting on the ongoing student protests over alleged NEET examination irregularities.
In a detailed video shared on Instagram, Ira clarified that her silence was not because she did not care about the issue, but because she did not feel she had anything meaningful to add to the conversation at that moment.
Ira Khan Explains Her Silence
Ira, who is known for speaking openly about mental health awareness, said that she carefully chooses the topics she speaks about and explained that her decision not to comment on the protests came from her personal way of dealing with distressing news.
She said that she does not actively follow news updates or watch videos related to violence and protests because such content affects her emotionally and can leave her feeling overwhelmed and helpless.
According to Ira, she tries to focus her energy on understanding how individuals can contribute positively within their own capacity rather than becoming emotionally consumed by situations beyond their direct control.
She admitted that this may not be the right approach for everyone, but it is the method she follows to manage difficult situations.

“I Didn’t Think I Had Anything to Add”
Ira explained that she was aware of the student protests and understood the concerns surrounding the issue, but she did not feel she had enough personal insight or information to make a statement.
She said she had not watched protest videos or followed social media discussions closely, which made her feel she was not in a position to offer an informed opinion.
The actor’s daughter added that she did not want her silence to be misunderstood as a lack of concern. She apologised if people felt she was ignoring the issue, saying that was never her intention.
A Personal Moment Made Her Realise the Situation
Ira also shared that she became personally concerned after receiving a video in which she was told that her cousin was possibly being detained during one of the protests.
She said she immediately worried about her cousin’s safety and felt relieved after confirming that she was fine. After that, she returned to her work.
The incident, she said, made her realise the seriousness of what was happening, but she still felt that making a statement without having enough understanding would not be helpful.
Ira Acknowledges Her Privilege
In her caption, Ira also recognised that being able to stay away from difficult news is a privilege that many people do not have.
She said the protests are ultimately about students’ futures, the examination system, and the need for dialogue and accountability. She added that she is trying to understand what role she can play that aligns with her values.

Over the past few weeks, several Bollywood celebrities have spoken about the student protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
Actors and public figures including Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and others have expressed support for students demanding transparency and reforms in the education system.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who joined the protest and went on a 26-day hunger strike, recently ended his fast after receiving assurances from the government regarding discussions on examination reforms, compensation for affected families, and protection for peaceful protesters.
With discussions around the NEET controversy continuing, Ira Khan’s explanation highlights a different perspective on public responses — that some people choose to speak immediately, while others take time to process issues before expressing their views.
