Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer Cocktail 2 has got off to a strong start at the box office. Directed by Homi Adajania, the romantic drama has managed to attract audiences despite mixed reviews and competition from several new releases. Within just three days of its release, the film has raced towards the ₹100 crore mark worldwide.
Released on June 19, Cocktail 2 earned an impressive ₹76.25 crore gross globally during its opening weekend, according to trade estimates. Of this, ₹57 crore came from the domestic market, while overseas collections contributed ₹19.25 crore. The film’s India net collection currently stands at ₹47.50 crore.
The film opened with ₹13.5 crore on its first day and witnessed healthy growth over the weekend. Saturday added ₹16.25 crore to its tally, while Sunday saw another jump, helping the romantic drama maintain a strong momentum at the ticket windows. With weekdays ahead, trade experts believe the film could comfortably cross the ₹100 crore worldwide milestone in the coming days if it continues to hold steady.
Despite facing competition from Bobby Deol’s Bandar, Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, Vikram Bhatt’s horror film Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past, and Hollywood thriller Obsession, Cocktail 2 has managed to pull audiences, especially in multiplexes and urban centres.
Directed by Homi Adajania, the film serves as a spiritual successor to the 2012 hit Cocktail. While the original featured Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, the new installment stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna in a fresh love triangle. The film explores modern relationships, friendship, heartbreak and emotional complexities against picturesque international backdrops.
Shahid Kapoor plays a charming yet emotionally conflicted man caught between two women portrayed by Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. While Kriti’s performance has been widely appreciated by audiences, Rashmika’s role has generated mixed reactions. The film’s music and glamorous visuals have also emerged as major attractions.
Although critics have been divided over the storyline, audiences have responded positively to the chemistry between the lead actors and the film’s emotional moments. Social media reactions have ranged from calling it a “refreshing romantic entertainer” to describing it as a visually appealing but flawed sequel.
Produced by Maddock Films and Luv Films, Cocktail 2 is looking set to become one of the biggest romantic hits of the year. With no major Bollywood release arriving immediately, the Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon film has a good opportunity to strengthen its box office run and enter the coveted ₹100 crore club worldwide in the next few days.
