A major theft case has surfaced involving filmmaker and stylist Rhea Kapoor, daughter of veteran actor Anil Kapoor and sister of actress Sonam Kapoor. Diamond-studded earrings worth Rs 1.35 crore, reportedly rented for a high-profile fashion event in New York, have gone missing, prompting an investigation by Mumbai Police.
According to reports, the jewellery was being carried by celebrity makeup artist Savleen Singh, who has worked closely with Rhea Kapoor for several years. The expensive earrings were rented from two Mumbai-based jewellers specifically for an international fashion event attended by Rhea in New York.
The team reportedly departed from Mumbai on April 27 and travelled via Dubai before arriving in New York the following day. However, the shocking discovery was made after they checked into their hotel. When Savleen opened the jewellery boxes to hand over the accessories for the event, both boxes were allegedly found empty.
The missing jewellery included a pair of emerald-studded diamond gold earrings valued at Rs 66 lakh and another pair of Zambian emerald-stone gold earrings worth Rs 69 lakh. Together, the stolen items are estimated to be worth Rs 1.35 crore.
Following the team’s return to India, a formal complaint was lodged at Mumbai’s Sahar Police Station. Authorities have now registered a case against an unidentified person under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated a detailed investigation.
Police are currently examining every stage of the journey, including airport security footage, airline records, baggage handling procedures, and the hotel stay in New York. Investigators are trying to determine whether the theft occurred at Mumbai Airport, during the international flight, or after the team arrived in the United States.
As of now, no suspect has been identified, and officials are working to trace the missing jewellery. The incident has attracted significant attention due to the high value of the stolen items and the involvement of a prominent Bollywood family.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities hoping to uncover where the costly earrings disappeared and who may be responsible for the theft.
