A serious case of alleged workplace harassment has emerged from the Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where multiple women employees have accused their colleagues of sexual harassment, inappropriate behaviour, and coercive conduct. The company has responded by reiterating its zero-tolerance policy and confirming suspensions of the employees named in the allegations.
According to police complaints and statements recorded in the case, the primary complainant—a newly married woman working as an associate—alleged that she was subjected to repeated harassment soon after joining the organisation. She claimed that colleagues made inappropriate remarks about her personal life, appearance, and marriage, along with offensive comments and unsolicited personal questions during training sessions.
The complainant further alleged that one of her senior colleagues persistently intruded into her personal space, made sexually suggestive remarks, and referred to her with derogatory nicknames. She also claimed that he made uncomfortable comments about her marriage and personal relationships, which created a hostile work environment.
In a more serious allegation, she stated that during an office festival event, her saree was allegedly pulled by a colleague, causing distress. She also accused another employee of repeated physical harassment, including inappropriate touching, unwanted physical contact, and offensive remarks about her body. According to her statement, these incidents made her deeply uncomfortable, but she initially hesitated to report them due to fear of job loss.
She also alleged that harassment extended to digital platforms, claiming that one of the accused colleagues attempted to contact her through social media after being blocked, continuing the alleged inappropriate communication through professional networking platforms.
Following multiple complaints from several women employees, police registered multiple FIRs and initiated an investigation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has since arrested eight individuals, including a woman manager, in connection with the case.
The accused, however, have denied the allegations, calling them false and claiming they are part of internal workplace politics and professional rivalry. Their families have also alleged bias and demanded a fair investigation.
Meanwhile, TCS has stated that it follows a strict zero-tolerance policy against harassment and coercion of any form. The company has confirmed that the employees named in the complaints have been suspended pending investigation. It also noted that a preliminary internal review did not show formal complaints through its ethics or POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) channels, and an oversight committee along with external agencies has been engaged to conduct a detailed probe.
The case has sparked widespread discussion around workplace safety, reporting mechanisms, and the effectiveness of internal grievance systems in large organisations. Authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing, and further legal action will depend on evidence gathered during the inquiry.
