Abhishek Sharma Registers Unwanted Record with 7th Duck in 2026 IPL Season
In a disappointing outing during the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, Abhishek Sharma recorded an unwanted milestone, registering his seventh duck of the calendar year 2026.
The left-handed batter, representing Sunrisers Hyderabad, fell for a golden duck against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing Indian Premier League season. Attempting an aggressive shot off a short ball from Jofra Archer, Abhishek miscued his stroke and was caught by Ravi Bishnoi, ending his innings without scoring.
This dismissal marked his seventh duck in just 18 innings across formats in 2026, placing him at the top of an unwanted list for Indian batters in a calendar year. With this, he surpassed the previous record jointly held by Rohit Sharma, who had six ducks in 32 innings during 2018, and Sanju Samson, who equalled the same tally in 2024.
Despite this setback, Abhishek’s overall IPL 2026 numbers reflect a mixed campaign. In five innings this season, he has scored 129 runs at an average of 25.80 and an explosive strike rate of 215.80, including a top score of 74 and a half-century to his name. His aggressive intent has often brought quick runs, but inconsistency continues to define his season.
As the tournament progresses, Abhishek will look to regain stability and convert his starts into match-winning performances, aiming to balance his natural attacking style with greater consistency at the crease.
