Yuvraj Singh Finally Reveals Truth Behind Lalit Modi’s Porsche 911 Reward for Six Sixes

Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh recently opened up about one of the most iconic moments of his career—the six sixes he hit against England’s Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup—and finally clarified the story about the alleged car reward from former IPL chairman Lalit Modi.

Six Sixes, One Legendary Match

Yuvraj Singh was a key figure in India’s dominance at both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, earning the Player of the Tournament award in both competitions under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Among his many feats, his 12-ball half-century against England in Durban, highlighted by six consecutive sixes in Broad’s 19th over, still evokes nostalgia among cricket fans.

Social media had long circulated the story that Lalit Modi had promised a luxury car to the player who managed the six sixes. Yuvraj has now set the record straight.

The Car Controversy

Speaking to Michael Vaughan on The Overlap Cricket, Yuvraj said,

“He (Lalit Modi) said to me that if someone hits six sixes, I’m going to give him a Ferrari. It just happened, and I was like, ‘Where’s my Ferrari?’ He promised a Porsche 911, and I asked, ‘Where’s my Porsche?’ He said, ‘You will get your car.’ I asked, ‘What if I win the next game? Do I upgrade to a Ferrari?’ He said, ‘No, no, no, you will only get a Porsche.’ But I actually got my car from him.”

Yuvraj confirmed that he received a BMW M5, adding, “He did deliver. He is a man of his word.”

Despite Modi leaving India in 2010 amid allegations of tax evasion, money laundering, and IPL-related controversies, Yuvraj praised him for keeping his promise regarding the car.

A Moment With Chris Broad

Yuvraj also shared an interesting anecdote about Stuart Broad’s father, Chris Broad, who was the match referee during the game. After the fifth six, Yuvraj joked with Broad:

“I smiled at him and said, ‘We’re even now, mate. The next one’s for me.’ His dad came and told me, ‘You almost finished my son’s career!’ He said I needed to sign a shirt for Stuart.”

Yuvraj obliged, writing on his India jersey: “I’ve been hit for five sixes, I know how it feels, and I hope you go on to become the best.”

However, Yuvraj revealed with a laugh that Chris Broad reportedly threw the signed shirt away when he gave it to Stuart!

A Legacy Beyond Numbers

This revelation adds yet another layer to Yuvraj Singh’s legendary status. Not only did he dominate on the field during India’s golden era of cricket, but his off-field stories also highlight his charisma, humor, and the lighthearted moments that define cricketing lore.

From smashing six sixes to receiving a BMW M5 and dealing with playful retaliation from opponents’ fathers, Yuvraj Singh’s journey remains one of cricket’s most memorable tales of grit, glory, and nostalgia.
