Aamir Khan Reveals He “Barely Watches Films,” Prefers Reading Over Cinema
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently opened up about his unconventional relationship with films, despite being one of Indian cinema’s most respected figures. In an interview with Variety India, Aamir revealed that he “barely watches films” and has always preferred reading over watching movies—a habit he says has remained unchanged since childhood.
Growing up in a strict, conservative household, Aamir explained that his exposure to cinema was limited. “At that time, I remember, if I had asked my mom if I could watch a film, she would say yes, but romantic films were not allowed,” he recalled. Most of his early viewing consisted of old black-and-white movies broadcast on Doordarshan, shaping a very selective and restrained introduction to cinema.
Even today, Aamir maintains that his work in film doesn’t translate into regular viewing habits. “I make films, I barely watch them. That’s the truth of the answer. I barely watch films. So, I don’t watch the latest movies. I have no idea what’s happening in Hollywood. I’m in my own world, I don’t really watch stuff,” he said, highlighting his detachment from current film trends despite being an influential filmmaker and actor.
