RCB Launches Permanent Tribute for 11 Fans Lost in Tragic Crowd Crush at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

Defending IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have unveiled a permanent memorial to honour the 11 fans who tragically lost their lives in last year’s crowd crush incident during the team’s post-title celebrations. The tragedy, which occurred amid celebrations following RCB’s championship win, sent shockwaves through the cricketing community and left a lasting impact on the franchise and its supporters.

As part of the tribute, RCB announced several ongoing gestures:

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) CEO Rajesh Menon said that throughout all domestic and internationals games at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, 11 seats will be kept empty to honour the lives
  • 11 seats at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will remain empty during all home matches, symbolising the 11 fans who lost their lives.
  • Players will wear black armbands and jersey No. 11 during matches as a mark of respect.
  • The franchise will hold pre-match commemorations and moments of silence during select home games, keeping the victims’ memories alive for fans attending in the stadium.

RCB CEO stated that the initiative underscores the franchise’s commitment to its fanbase and the importance of acknowledging the profound loss. “This is our way of ensuring that these fans, who have been an integral part of the RCB family, are never forgotten. Their passion and love for the game will continue to inspire us,” the CEO said.

The gesture has also been embraced by fans, who see it as a meaningful way to remember the supporters while fostering a culture of safety and awareness at stadiums. RCB has indicated that the memorial will be maintained permanently, becoming a symbolic part of the stadium’s atmosphere and a visible reminder of the tragic incident.

The team’s move highlights the evolving approach of IPL franchises in recognising the emotional connection with supporters beyond the game itself. It also serves as a commitment to fan safety, as RCB works closely with stadium authorities to implement stricter crowd management measures during high-attendance events.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, the permanent tribute at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will ensure that the legacy of these 11 fans is preserved, creating a lasting connection between the team, its players, and the supporters who form the heart of the RCB family.
