Karan Johar Praises ‘Dhurandhar 2’, Calls Ranveer Singh’s Performance His Career Best
Filmmaker Karan Johar recently shared an in-depth review of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, applauding the film for going beyond conventional action tropes and delivering a layered cinematic experience.
Taking to Instagram, Johar reflected on the ongoing discourse around themes like “testosterone, hyper-alpha energy and deep rooted patriotism” often associated with espionage dramas. However, he emphasised that the film, directed by Aditya Dhar, offers much more beneath its high-octane surface.
One of the standout aspects for Johar was the emotional depth of the protagonist, played by Ranveer Singh. He described the backstory of Singh’s character, Jaskirat, as “heart-wrenching,” highlighting the personal sacrifices the character makes for his country as a core strength of the narrative.
Johar also praised the film’s storytelling and technical finesse. He noted that even the antagonist is not treated as a one-dimensional figure, but instead receives a nuanced and layered backstory. According to him, the humanisation of characters on both sides, combined with the film’s sound design and overall craft, showcases Dhar’s strong directorial command.
Particularly impressed by Ranveer Singh’s performance, Johar did not hold back in his admiration. He called it the actor’s “career best work” and hailed him as a “true Dhurandhar movie star,” underscoring the impact of his portrayal.
With its mix of emotional storytelling, character depth, and cinematic scale, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge appears to have struck a chord with Johar, who positioned the film as more than just an action spectacle highlighting its narrative richness and artistic ambition.
