PVR Cinemas Apologizes After Dhurandhar: The Revenge Screens Face Widespread Delays and Cancellations

New Delhi, March 19: The much-anticipated action drama Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, hit theatres today, following paid previews that began on March 18. While audiences eagerly flocked to see the film starring Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt, the release was marred by delays and cancellations, prompting frustration among moviegoers nationwide.

PVR Issues Official Apology

In response to widespread disruptions, PVR Cinemas issued a public apology via social media, acknowledging the inconvenience caused. The statement read:

“An apology to all Dhurandhar fans! We deeply regret the cancellations and the disappointment caused. Delays occurred due to content-related challenges, and some shows were cancelled as regional versions weren’t available. Your excitement means everything to us, and we’re committed to making your next experience better than ever. Thank you for your patience and continued support.”

The cinema chain further clarified that Hindi shows are now running, while dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada are still awaited. Audiences affected by cancellations were offered refunds or the option to switch to alternate shows.

Opening Day Chaos

The film’s paid previews on March 18 faced multiple cancellations in cities like Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. On release day, technical glitches and last-minute edits delayed several screenings. In Mumbai, shows at Gaiety Galaxy were cancelled, while large crowds gathered outside the Bandra theatre as the 4:45 pm show failed to start on time.

Delhi-NCR audiences faced similar disruptions. Multiple cinema chains, including Miraj, Movietime, Wave, Cinepolis, Moviemax, and some INOX properties, cancelled evening screenings, although larger PVR multiplexes attempted to proceed as scheduled. Technical issues included downloading the film and receiving the Key Delivery Message (KDM), essential for screening.

Southern Market Issues

Southern states were particularly affected, with Tamil and Telugu dubbed shows being cancelled due to non-availability of the regional content. Theatre owners in Chennai confirmed that the Tamil version had not been delivered in time. Audiences were advised to watch the Hindi version with subtitles or opt for refunds. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala explained that while the Hindi version was ready, dubbed versions were undergoing last-minute sound or edit corrections.

Filmmaker Addresses Fans

Aditya Dhar addressed fans on X, stating:

“Most of our Hindi shows across India are running as scheduled from 5 pm onwards. All Tamil and Telugu shows will commence from 9 pm onwards. However, due to unforeseen technical difficulties, our Malayalam and Kannada shows will begin from tomorrow morning. If the dubbed version you have tickets for is not currently playing, you will have an option for a refund or to watch the Hindi version with subtitles instead. We truly apologise for the inconvenience. Your love for this film means the world to us.”

Star-Studded Cast

Dhurandhar: The Revenge features Ranveer Singh in the lead role, with supporting performances by R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, Danish Pandor, and Sara Arjun.

Despite the release-day challenges, fans continue to show enthusiasm for the film, with screenings steadily resuming across Hindi-speaking markets. Regional audiences are advised to check the PVR app or website for the latest updates regarding dubbed versions and show timings.
