Television actress Mahhi Vij became emotional during a recent episode of Salman Khan-hosted Bigg Boss 20 as she opened up about her personal life and her decision not to accept alimony or ask for maintenance from her estranged husband, Jay Bhanushali. The actress shared that her decision was based on her personal principles and her desire to secure her daughter’s future through her own hard work.
During the conversation with her fellow contestants, Mahhi explained that she wanted to participate in the reality show on her own merit rather than depend financially on Jay. “I didn’t take a single penny in alimony or even ask for maintenance,” Mahhi said.
The actress further clarified that her decision did not mean Jay was unwilling to support her or their daughter. According to Mahhi, he has always been willing to help, but she personally finds it difficult to ask someone else for money, especially when she knows how much effort they have put into earning it.
“It’s not like Jay doesn’t offer to help, but I cannot ask for money from someone. It’s his hard-earned money,” she explained.
Mahhi’s statement highlighted the distinction she makes between having access to financial support and choosing to earn independently. She acknowledged Jay’s hard work and said she did not want to take money simply because it was available to her.
‘The judge asked me four times to reconsider’
During the emotional conversation, Mahhi also recalled what happened when she was in court. According to the actress, the judge repeatedly asked her to reconsider her decision not to accept alimony or maintenance.
“When I was standing in court, the judge asked me four times to reconsider not taking alimony or even maintenance. He insisted that I take it,” she revealed.
Despite being asked to reconsider, Mahhi said she remained firm in her decision. She explained that her choice came from her respect for the effort Jay had put into building his career and earning his money.
“I didn’t take it because Jay earned that money after working very hard,” she added.
Mahhi also clarified that she does not believe Jay would refuse to help her if she needed anything. In fact, she described him as someone who would make his resources available to her. However, she wanted to maintain her independence rather than ask for financial assistance.
“Not that he will refuse me for anything, his entire locker is open for me. But it’s his efforts; he stood for 16 hours at work and earned that,” she said.
