Actress Parineeti Chopra recently opened up about a beautiful memory of her late Shuddh Desi Romance co-star Sushant Singh Rajput, recalling how genuinely happy and excited he was when she won the National Award.
Speaking to Zoom, Parineeti went back to the days when she was shooting with Sushant and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. She remembered the moment when the announcement of her National Award came, saying that she was sitting with both actors at a hotel poolside on an off day.
Parineeti recalled receiving a message from filmmaker Karan Johar that simply said, “Mubarak ho.” She initially did not understand what the message was about and wondered why he was congratulating her.
She remembered how quickly Sushant became curious about the message. According to Parineeti, he immediately got excited and said that he would find out what had happened.
Then came a reaction that Parineeti clearly still remembers.
“I have never seen somebody get so excited, so happy for me,” she said. Parineeti recalled Sushant standing up on the pool-deck chairs and shouting, “Main National Award winner ke saath kaam kar raha hoon.”
For Parineeti, it was not just the excitement of a co-star. She described Sushant as someone who genuinely supported and celebrated her achievements.
“He was like my buddy. He was like my cheerleader,” she said.
Parineeti and Sushant shared a special bond
The two actors worked together in Shuddh Desi Romance, and Parineeti revealed that their friendship went beyond their work on the film. They connected over their interest in academics and could discuss subjects that went far beyond cinema.
“We would talk about stars, economics. He really used to get me. I used to get him,” Parineeti recalled.
Her words paint a picture of a friendship built on mutual understanding and shared interests. While actors often meet on film sets and maintain professional relationships, Parineeti’s memories suggest that her equation with Sushant had a much more personal and comfortable side.
She remembered him as someone who would openly celebrate her happiness and make her achievements feel even more special.
A memory Parineeti still holds close
Years later, Parineeti’s recollection of that moment shows how deeply certain memories can stay with a person. What could have been a simple congratulatory moment became memorable because of Sushant’s genuine excitement.
His reaction to her National Award win was not about comparing achievements or celebrating himself. Instead, he was simply happy for his friend and co-star.
Calling him her “buddy” and “cheerleader,” Parineeti remembered Sushant as someone who understood her, supported her and celebrated her success wholeheartedly.
Her story is a touching reminder of the personal connections that can develop behind the scenes in the film industry—and how a small moment of happiness shared with someone can remain a cherished memory for years.
