The 1990s were a completely different era for Bollywood, especially for actors who were juggling several films at the same time. Raveena Tandon recently took fans back to those hectic days while appearing on the semi-final episode of India’s Best Dancer Season 5, where she opened up about her demanding work schedules with Karisma Kapoor.
Remembering their packed schedules, Raveena said that she and Karisma were among the actresses who seemed to work almost endlessly. She joked that while a day technically has 24 hours, they somehow managed to work for what felt like 36 hours.
“90s mein I think do hi heroines thi jo literally 24 ghante mein 36 ghante kaam karte the. Ek Lolo ji hain aur ek main hoon,” Raveena said.
She explained that they would often shoot for multiple productions and move between several sets in a single day. According to Raveena, they could be on six different sets belonging to six different productions, spending just a couple of hours at one location before rushing to another.
“Do ghante idhar, dedh ghante udhar, teen ghante idhar toh chaar ghante udhar,” she recalled.
The schedule was so hectic that there were times when the actresses would barely have time to remember which character they were playing. Raveena added that after a point, they would simply stop thinking about it and do whatever they were told to do on the set.
Karisma, who was also a leading actress of the 1990s, added her own memory of those crazy shooting days. She recalled how Film City would become almost like a second home for them.
“Shooting hoti thi Film City mein aur hum log subah 7 baje se shooting karte the,” Karisma said.
She remembered how she and Raveena would literally cross paths while rushing between different sets. One actress would be leaving one set while the other was heading to another, often after quickly changing costumes.
They would change clothes, move to another set, shoot for a while and then immediately head somewhere else. Their schedules were so packed that even their movements around Film City seemed perfectly timed.
The conversation gave fans a nostalgic glimpse into the working lives of two of Bollywood’s biggest female stars from the 90s. Today, actors may have more structured schedules, but Raveena and Karisma’s memories show just how demanding the industry could be during that era.
Both actresses went on to build successful careers while managing these exhausting schedules, multiple films and constantly changing characters. Their story is also a reminder of just how much hard work went into the glamorous image of 1990s Bollywood.
