Kerala Entrepreneur Rewards Employees After India’s T20 World Cup Win Inspired by Sanju Samson
India’s victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sparked massive celebrations across the country. Fireworks lit up city skies, fans flooded the streets, and social media was filled with congratulatory messages for the Indian team. But in Kerala, one businessman chose a different way to celebrate the historic win—by sharing the joy directly with the people who help run his business every day.
Instead of organising a large public celebration, entrepreneur Nithin Babu decided to reward his employees after India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team in the final. His gesture was largely inspired by the match-winning performance of Kerala’s own cricket star Sanju Samson.
Bonus for employees after Samson’s heroic innings
Nithin Babu, a 57-year-old entrepreneur from Pampady in Kerala’s Kottayam district, distributed ₹1.64 lakh among his employees after India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy. The bonus was shared among 82 staff members working at his two garment retail outlets. Each employee received ₹2,000 as a celebratory reward.
According to reports, the businessman simply wanted to share the happiness of India’s victory with the people who contribute to his business every day.
Samson played a crucial role in the final, scoring 69 runs from 46 deliveries, helping India post a strong total and eventually secure the title. For many fans in Kerala, Samson’s performance carried a special sense of regional pride.
A tradition during the tournament
Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time Nithin rewarded his employees during the tournament. His celebrations began earlier in the competition whenever Samson delivered a standout performance.
- During the Super Eights match against the West Indies cricket team, Samson smashed an *unbeaten 97 runs. After that match, Nithin distributed *₹500 each to 62 employees*, totalling around *₹31,000**.
- In the semifinal against the England cricket team at Wankhede Stadium, Samson scored *89 runs. This time, the reward increased to *₹1,000 per employee*, with nearly *₹62,000 distributed**.
By the time India reached the final, celebrating Samson’s performances by rewarding employees had become a tradition within the business.

A lifelong love for cricket
Nithin’s admiration for Samson’s achievements is rooted in his own love for cricket. As a teenager growing up in Pampady, he frequently played in local tournaments and even represented his college team. He was once selected to join the Kottayam Cricket Club while studying in Class 12.
However, the lack of proper equipment and resources made it difficult for him to continue pursuing cricket seriously. Gradually, he shifted his focus toward building a career.
From cricket dreams to business success
After completing his studies, Nithin moved to Bengaluru to pursue a course in business management while working part-time to support himself. During that time, he often passed a cricket academy where young players trained professionally.
But the monthly training cost of ₹8,000 was nearly equal to his part-time salary, making it impossible for him to pursue the sport further. Eventually, he decided to focus fully on building a career.
Building a thriving garment business
Years later, Nithin and his wife Blessy started a small garment store in Pampady called Feya Garments, named after their eldest daughter. What began as a modest shop gradually expanded into a successful business.
The couple later launched another store called JRN Clothing and even established a manufacturing and export unit in Tiruppur, one of India’s major textile hubs. Today, their venture reportedly generates an annual turnover of around ₹30 crore.
A simple gesture with a big message
While India celebrated the World Cup with fireworks and cheers, Nithin Babu’s decision to share the moment with his employees stood out as a thoughtful gesture. By rewarding his staff after Samson’s performances, he turned cricket celebrations into an opportunity to appreciate the people who contribute to his success every day.
